Person-Centred Therapy

Supports Your Healing Process

Person-centred therapy is based on the belief that we all have an natural ability to heal and grow under the right conditions and that when we are struggling with life’s challenges a skilled, caring and facilitative therapeutic relationship can support us in this. Being person-centred means that I support your unique healing journey rather than advise or analyse you.

Anti-Oppressive

Person-centred therapy lends itself very well to anti-oppressive practices such as queer-affirming and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to therapy because it shares some fundamental principles such as valuing diversity instead of pathologising it and believing individuals accounts of their own experience.

Relationally Safer

Through the relational qualities of person-centred therapy (empathy, genuineness and positive regard) I aim to create a safe gentle space for you to explore difficult experiences. This can be more effective in getting to the deeper issues than a more confrontational approach especially for sensitive people and those with interpersonal trauma. Many people need a high degree of relational safety in order to work on vulnerable issues.

Led by You

In person-centred therapy you are in charge. You only talk about what you want to and you choose the focus of the sessions. I will explore this with you to help you to make sense of your experiences and where possible resolve the things you are dealing with.

A Genuine Relationship

I don’t subscribe to the ‘blank slate’ approach to therapy, I show up as a genuine person (with appropriate professional boundaries) and sometimes share my own experience, where that might be helpful to you.

No ‘Homework’ Needed

I sometimes share resources where useful, however you are never expected to do anything you don’t want to. I know that a lot of techniques offered in therapy can be inaccessible for many neurodivergent people especially those who experience executive dysfunction and/or demand avoidance. You don’t need to do anything between appointments to benefit from person-centred therapy.

Free Enquiry Call

Finding the right therapist can be difficult, particularly for people with minority identities and is often about finding the right ‘fit’ of traits and personality in addition to qualifications. I understand how important this is so if my profile appeals then please get in touch. I offer a free informal telephone or video enquiry call of up to 20 minutes so you can find out more.

Fees:

All types of therapy are charged at the same rate of £50 per 60 minutes (or equivalent).

Longer or shorter appointments are charged pro-rata.

  • For online video therapy the platform I use is Zoom. You receive a email with a link when you are booked in and a reminder 24 hours before your appointment.

You can have your camera off if you prefer.

Telephone therapy: I will call you on the number you give me at the arranged time. You get a booking email and a reminder email 24 hours beforehand.

Appointments are 60 minutes unless we agree otherwise. All are charged at the rate of £50 per 60 minutes.

  • I offer email and text therapy as an access accommodation for those who need them, subject to availability and being the right ‘fit’.

Text therapy takes place in real time, using Zoom. This is charged at £50 per 60 minutes.

Email therapy works by you sending over an email and I will reply. One email exchange between us counts and is charged as an ‘appointment’ at my standards rate of £50.

I suggest that you send over no more than 1500-2000 words. My reply will be similar in length although if you write more I may have less time to write and my reply may be shorter.

If you don’t already have a secure email account I suggest setting up a free protonmail account.

  • Single session therapy originates from the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) tradition of psychological therapies, however the way I practice it is person-centred. There may be a more focused feel to a single session therapy appointment but you are still in charge of what you do and don't want to talk about and what you want to get out of the session.

    How do I book?

Send me an enquiry with some brief details of what you would like to work on and your availability, I will then be in touch with a dates. Once we agree a date you will need to make payment to confirm the booking. I send out a secure online form beforehand and there is an option with that to give me more background information on the issues you want to discuss so you can get the most out of your appointment.

Single session therapy may not be appropriate if you are in crisis or have significant trauma that you are not currently able to manage without support.
